CBSE 12th CHEMISTRY ANSWERS (All In One)

CBSE 12th CHEMISTRY ANSWERS (All In One)

Chapter Assessment

VERY SHORT TYPE QUESTIONS( All In One)

CHAPTER : Chemistry in everyday life

1. What role does chemical messengers play during drug target interaction?

Answer: Neuronal cells also communicate with each other through receptors. Chemical Messengers are secreted by neuronal cells which helps to communicate between Neuronal cells.

2. How dows tagamet and zantac act as antacids?

Answer: They both prevent the interaction of histamine with the receptors present in the stomach wall, as a result lower amount of acid HCl is released.

3. Which class of drugs are used to hypnotic?

Answer: Hypnotic (from Greek Hypnos, sleep) or soporific drugs, commonly known as sleeping pills, are a class of psychoactive drugs

4. How does Aspirin act as an analgesic?

Ans: Aspirin causes several different effects in the body, mainly the reduction of inflammation, analgesia (relief of pain), the prevention of clotting, and the reduction of fever.

5. What type of drug is chloramphenicol?

Ans:  Chloramphenicol is a man-made antibiotic. It slows growth of bacteria by preventing them from producing important proteins that they need to survive.

6. Why does use of saccharin is of great value to diabetic patients?

Ans: Consumption of saccharin-sweetened products can benefit diabetics as the substance goes directly through the human digestive system without being digested. While saccharin has no food energy, it can trigger the release of insulin in humans due to its sweet taste.

7. Why do Chemicals added to food?

Ans: Food additive. Food additives are substances added to food to preserve flavor or enhance its taste, appearance, or other qualities.

Your Topical Understanding

1. Write the name of an antacid which is often used as a medicine?

Ans: Cimetidine(tagamet), Ranitidine(Zantac)

2.To which class of drugs does barbiturates belongs?

Ans: Barbiturates belong to the class of Sedative and hypnotic drugs. Sedative is a drug which calms the subject without inducing sleep . And hypnotic is a drug which calms a subject by inducing sleep.

3. Name the scientist who won the Nobel Prize for the development of penicillin?

Ans: The Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine 1945 was awarded jointly to Sir Alexander Fleming, Ernst Boris Chain and Sir Howard Walter Florey "for the discovery of penicillin and its curative effect in various infectious diseases".

4. Give a structural formula of sulfanilamide?

Ans: C6H8N2O2S

CHAPTER- BIOMOLECULES

YOUR TOPICAL UNDERSTANDINGS

1. A Vitamin is soluble in water and its deficiency in the body causes Beriberi?
Ans : Thiamin (B1)
2. Why does nucleic acids are called polynucleotides?
Ans: The hydroxyl group of a phosphate on one nucleotide undergoes a condensation reaction with the hydroxyl group on the carbohydrate ring of another nucleotide
3. A man is suffering from muscular weakness and fragility of RBC is which kind of food intake should be increased?
Ans: Food containing Vitamin E
4.

YOUR TOPICAL UNDERSTANDINGS

1. Which of the following biomolecule is soluble in water?
Ans: Albumin
2. What type of interaction stabilises beta pleated keratin structure?
Ans:
3. What type of proteins act as enzymes?
Ans: Amino acids
4.How does amino acids forms proteins?
Ans: Within a protein, multiple amino acids are linked together by peptide bonds, thereby forming a long chain. Peptide bonds are formed by a biochemical reaction that extracts a water molecule as it joins the amino group of one amino acid to the carboxyl group of a neighboring amino acid.

YOUR TOPICAL UNDERSTANDINGS

1. Name two carbohydrates that are branched polymers of glucose?
Ans: glycogen (animals),  Amylose and amylopectin, a form of starch (plants)
2. In representation of D-(+)-glucose what does D presents?
Ans:D represents  configuration
3.What is the structural feature characteristic reducing sugars?
Ans : A reducing sugar is any sugar that is capable of acting as a reducing agent because it has a free aldehyde group or a free ketone group. All monosaccharides are reducing sugars, along with some disaccharides, oligosaccharides, and polysaccharides.
